about

In the months leading up to this project, common colleagues and friends of G. CALVIN WESTON and LUCAS BRODE suggested that the two musicians should meet and collaborate, considering that Lucas is a major fan of Lounge Lizards, the renowned band that Calvin joined in 1990. Once Calvin, known for his work with Ornette Coleman's Prime Time, heard some of Lucas’s guitar playing, he suggested that they make a recording together. Lucas immediately agreed to the idea. Sometime later, Lucas received a massive folder of Calvin’s drumming, along with a few whacky synth noises. Lucas organized sound collages, then made guitar loops and recorded solos and other sounds that he felt would complement the energy of the project.

The final result is a powerful recording that features heavy, intricate and deep grooves, at times reminiscent of Marc Ribot on John Zorn’s Asmodeus: Book of Angels Volume 7 (another group that features G. Calvin Weston) or punk-influenced music, one of Lucas’s early inspirations, along with more introspective moments similar to Lounge Lizards.
